Based upon what we believe is the best roast to bring out the flavor of our Makahiki Farms Kona Coffee, we recommend our medium-dark roast. That is the roast that won the silver medal at the People's Choice tasting at the Cream of the Crop.

If you want your coffee roasted lighter or darker, please make a note in the comments, or call or email and we'll do our best to get it to you as quickly as possible.

Why do we offer 8 ounce packages instead of whole pounds? The enemy of coffee freshness is air. Two half pound packages means that one stays sealed and unexposed to air until you are ready to use it. Our packaging has one-way valves that allow the roasted coffee to release the gasses that occur after roasting but do not allow any air to get in. The coffee will stay fresh longest if it is kept in a dark, dry and air tight environment.

One dollar of every half pound of coffee purchased from Makahiki Farms goes to breast cancer research. Calendar 2008 donations will be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Available grades are:

Estate - a mixture of Fancy, #1 and Prime bean sizes for an exceptionally smooth-tasting coffee.

Extra Fancy - the biggest and the best beans. This is the highest grade of Kona coffee. Our extra fancy has a slightly bolder flavor than the estate.

Peaberry - very rare and highly prized with an exquisitely mild flavor. These beans represent only about 4% of the coffee crop. They are round and occur when there is only a single, very dense bean within the coffee cherry instead of the usual two.
