What's New! (December 31, 2003)

The holidays are almost over. Thank you to all our loyal customers who gave Makahiki Farms coffee to their friends, family and co-workers this year.

We have just completed a round of harvesting the coffee cherry and this round of picking was the last one for the 2003 season. This last round looked wonderful, with big red cherries totaling 1631 pounds. The trees are looking a bit relieved to have all that weight removed. The recent rains have been great for them too.

The crew will begin pruning the trees the first week of January. We do a type of pruning that is called "Kona Style", where each tree has its oldest vertical branch removed. Pruning stimulates the tree to grow new verticals for subsequent years' harvests. Pruning each year is very important since the coffee cherry is produced on the new growth.

Hau'oli Makahiki Hou!
Happy New Year

What's New! (December 15, 2003)

The holiday issue of Kona Views magazine is available for free on publications stands all over town. Water-color artist Karen Spachner is feaured in this issue. We extend many thanks to Karen for doing such a great job on our award-winning label artwork.

Look for Karen's picture holding some of our coffee on page 4 along with her bio. Our ad is just below it on the same page.

Looking for holiday gifts?

We've been having lots of fun putting together gift baskets and gift bags for the holidays. We have woven baskets that fit a variety of items. We also have some Hawaiian print cellophane gift bags with pineapples, palm trees or quilt-patterns in holiday colors.

What's New! (November 19, 2003)

We are so excited and proud to have won two awards at the 2003 Kona Coffee Cultural Festival. Our web site won second place and our label won the Sponsor's Award. We extend many thanks to Karen Spachner for doing such a great job on the label artwork. Look for Karen and her art to be featured in an upcoming issue of Kona Views magazine.

We participated in a coffee sampling event at Keauhou Shopping Center on Sunday, November 9, as part of the festival. We featured our Estate 100% Kona Coffee and also had two ounce and half pound coffee for sale. It was a great success and we received many nice compliments on the coffee. Although we did not take the top prize, we want to thank the many who voted for our coffee in the "People's Choice" event.

Mugs

The mugs are in! We now have Makahiki Farms logo bistro mugs available. These 16 ounce cobalt blue mugs are great additions to our 100% Kona Estate coffee for your own enjoyment or holiday gift giving!

What's New! (November 5, 2003)

Harvesting of our 2003 crop is well underway. The coffee cherry ripened a little early this year due to the warm dry weather. We hand-picked the early rounds in July ourselves and the quality looks terrific. We expect the harvest to run through the end of the year with a final round in early January.

The picking crew has already harvested over 33,000 pounds of cherry. All of our coffee that we sell has been wet-milled by hand by us to insure the highest quality of the coffee going into the dry-milling and roasting stages.

We have proudly entered our hand-processed estate coffee into the cupping competition of the Kona Coffee Festival. In addition, our label and website are competing in their respective categories at the festival. Be sure to visit Keauhou Shopping Center on Sunday, November 9th to sample coffee and view the labels. This is your opportunity to vote for the People's Choice awards given to the most popular coffee and label.

We will have Makahiki Farms logo bistro mugs available by mid-November. These will be great additions to our 100% Kona Estate coffee for your own enjoyment or holiday gift giving!
