What's
New! (December
31, 2003)
The
holidays are almost over. Thank you to all our loyal customers who
gave Makahiki Farms coffee to their friends, family and co-workers
this year.
We
have just completed a round of harvesting the coffee cherry and
this round of picking was the last one for the 2003 season. This
last round looked wonderful, with big red cherries totaling 1631
pounds. The trees are looking a bit relieved to have all that weight
removed. The recent rains have been great for them too.
The
crew will begin pruning the trees the first week of January. We
do a type of pruning that is called "Kona Style", where
each tree has its oldest vertical branch removed. Pruning stimulates
the tree to grow new verticals for subsequent years' harvests. Pruning
each year is very important since the coffee cherry is produced
on the new growth.

Happy New Year
